There was once a famous Bangla movie titled โเฆเฆฐเฆพ เงงเงง เฆเฆจโ based on Bangladeshโs Liberation War of 1971. Fast forward to todayโand at the recent BOND discussion in Virginia, the group was also 11 strong. The twist? Quazi M. Ahmed, Founder & President, BOND, was the lone Resident Bangladeshi, surrounded by 10 vibrant NRBs. Call it the BOND Battalion!
A huge shoutout to dear friend Mahmuda Rahman Khan for graciously hosting the session on โGlobal Bangladeshis, Local Impact: Co-creating the Future of Bangladeshโ in the meeting room of her condominium. The discussion was rich, focused, andโฆ yes, followed by an unforgettable dinner that had both elements of coziness and culinary delight. Letโs just say Quazi M. Ahmedโs stomach signed up for BOND too!
Special applause to Topu Khan, Mahmudaโs multi-talented husbandโsculptor, art healer, and all-around creative soul. Heโs already set up a studio in Sterling, Virginia. It is sincerely hoped the DMV region starts seeing more art (and fewer stress ulcers) thanks to his work!
There is immense gratitude for those who made the effort to be there:
Muhammad Akbar Hossain Bhai, leadership coach extraordinaire, who flew in all the way from Floridaโyes, Flor-i-da!
Quamrul, DU-IBA classmate of Quazi M. Ahmed, who drove 200 miles to join Rafiq, another proud IBAerโowner of multiple businesses back home
HSC buddy Shamim and his amazing spouse Tamanna who gave a great treat to both Quazi M. Ahmed and Akbar bhai and brought the worldโs best mouth-watering mango chatni at the dinner
Guests Muhammad Nazmul Hasan, Farzana Sultana, and Tareque Mehdiโeach one brought perspective, passion, and presence.
This gathering wasnโt just a meetupโit was a masterstroke in building clarity on how to bridge the demand and supply sides of diaspora engagement for Bangladeshโs development.
Together, theyโre not just talking changeโtheyโre co-creating the next Bangladesh.
